Local & State Support Groups
Alternative Educators' Alliance (AEA)
AEA welcomes all home educators, regardless of race, creed, religion or educational philosophy. Its primary purpose is to be a source of information and support to home educators and to those interested in information about home education. They also offer networking opportunities for homeschoolers. This group meets in Brazos County.
Ark-La-Tex Homeschoolers
This is an inclusive, informal group for the Southwest Arkansas, East Texas, and Northwest Louisiana area. This group is available for homeschoolers who are not religious based, and who would like to meet on a regular basis for educational outings as well as social events for the children and adults alike. They meet for Park Days and schedule several inexpensive group field trips a month. Homeschoolers as well as unschoolers are welcome.
Austin Well Trained Mind
All Austin, Texas Area homeschool families who have been inspired by "The Well-Trained Mind" by Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer are welcome to discuss issues involving homeschooling our children in the classical method. Discussions involving the use of Charlotte Mason methods and other classical interpreters are also encouraged. All ages from infants to veteran homeschoolers in the midst of the grammar, logic or rhetoric stages are encouraged to join us, as are all faiths.
CHEACT Newsletter
This list is maintained for the sole purpose of distributing the newsletter and other special announcements to the membership of CHEACT (Christian Home Education Association of Central Texas).
Christian Home Educators of The Colony (CHEC)
The vision and purpose of the CHEC Homeschool Support Group is to strengthen the family and ensure the success of home education through academic and spiritual support. The members of this support group strive to provide opportunities for families to share ideas, encourage one another, and participate in various types of activities.
Crossroads Home Educated Children (CHEC)
Crossroads Home Educated Children (CHEC) is a local non-profit Christian based support group serving families in the Crossroads area (Victoria, Texas and surrounding areas) who have made the decision to homeschool their children. CHEC accepts all applicants regardless of age, race, religion or lack of religion. CHEC seeks to be inclusive, reaching out to any and all who need support and encouragement in the area of homeschooling.
Dallas Unschoolers Circle
Dallas Unschoolers Circle is made up of families from Dallas and the surrounding areas who follow a self-directed or child-led approach to learning. They meet bi-monthly at local parks giving the kids the opportunity to engage in unstructured play and the parents the opportunity to socialize and support each other on their journey.
DFW Blackboard
The DFW Blackboard group focuses on enhancing the un/homeschool experience for children of African descent by accomplishing 4 goals: by providing an environment for communicating helpful info and loving support online, by organizing cultural field trips that help create a sense of pride and self awareness (as well as an awareness of other people of color), to assist in the recognition of a "world community" through community service activities, and to foster a sense of "extended family" through playdates/healthy-potlucks/etc. While the focus is on Black homeschoolers in the DFW area, any parent choosing to learn more about homeschooling their Black child or enhancing a "regular school" education on weekends and after school are welcome to participate.
Garden Oaks HS Support Group
Garden Oaks HS Support Group is a Christian home school support group for the greater Houston community. They offer group activites, a newlsetter, information, and support.
Home School Texas (HOST)
Home School Texas (HOST) is a statewide ministry to the Christian home schoolers of Texas and other regions of the United States. Though they are willing to serve any homeschooling family, all of their activities and publications are designed to be consistent with the teachings of Biblical Christianity.
Homeschoolers EXCEL
Homeschoolers EXCEL is an inclusive support group for homeschoolers seeking cooperative, non-sectarian, non-partisan educational and social opportunities. They have members from all parts of the Dallas, Texas metroplex who get together for field trips, co-op classes, parties and park days, and lots of fun. Members receive a monthly newsletter with information on EXCEL events and other activities of interest to homeschoolers.
L_A_U_G_H: Lubbock Area Unschoolers Growing at Home
L_A_U_G_H: Lubbock Area Unschoolers Growing at Home is a support group for Lubbock-area families homeschooling for the joy of it.
Mesquite Christian Home School Association (MCHSA)
MCHSA offers information about homeschooling, a wide variety of activities and field trips, and a forum for parents to discuss the challenges and rewards of home schooling and an opportunity to get help in subjects where they may need it.
Metrocrest Home School Support Group
The Metrocrest Home School Support Group is a community of Christian homeschooling families. Its purpose is to provide the best educational tools, activities and support possible to help parents train their children to become godly men and women in modern society.
North Houston Charlotte Mason Support Group
This group provides support for parents utilizing a Charlotte Mason style method of home education.
North Texas Home Educators’ Network (NTHEN)
The North Texas Home Educators’ Network (NTHEN) provides services and support to homeschool families and homeschool support groups in north and northeast Texas. Their goal is to ensure homeschool leaders and parents have the proper tools and resources to create an enriching education experience for every homeschool student. NTHEN is the largest regional homeschool organization in Texas, serving local support group leaders in more than 80 counties and from more than 160 support groups throughout north and northeast Texas.
North Texas Natural Learners (NTNL)
North Texas Natural Learners (NTNL) is an inclusive, secular support and activity group for unschoolers and other homeschoolers. Their base is Denton, though their membership extends to all of north Texas.
Northwest Houston Homeschoolers
Northwest Houston Homeschoolers is an inclusive group of home educators who meet to support each other in their adventures with homeschooling.
PEAK Network
PEAK is an acronym for Parent Educators and Kids. The PEAK network is comprised of member-led groups of independent home educators and are inclusive, welcoming all local home educators who enjoy sharing and learning with other families. Members represent a broad range of learning styles, parenting philosophies, personal beliefs and political viewpoints, and value and find strength in that diversity. Groups offer science fairs, workshops, seasonal events, teen activities, field trips, park days, and much more. PEAK has groups in Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas.
San Antonio's Home Education Resources and Opportunities (H.E.R.O.)
H.E.R.O. is a non-profit organization committed to providing access to opportunities and resources for home educators of all races, religions, philosophies, and education styles for expanding and improving their home education experience. H.E.R.O. is dedicated to fostering a supportive atmosphere for home educators by raising the awareness of alternative education choices and increasing positive interactions within the San Antonio metro area community.
Southeast Area Home Education Network
SAHEN is a home school support group/co-op formed to serve the southeast area of San Antonio along with surrounding areas. Offers monthly park days, field trips, co-op classes, and more.
Southwest Dallas Home School Association
Southwest Dallas Home School Association serves home schoolers in Dallas, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, Desoto and the surrounding areas (Dallas County and northern Ellis County). This is a Christian support group.
Sugar Creek Christian Home Educators (SCCHE)
Sugar Creek Christian Home Educators is a cooperative of Christian families committed to supporting and encouraging each another to teach their children at home. SCCHE serves the southwest Houston, Texas area. Although members primarily reside in Houston, Missouri City, Richmond and Sugar Land, many members live in neighboring communities.
Tarrant Home Education Association (THEA)
THEA is a support group for Tarrant county and the surrounding area for families who educate their children at home.
Texas Advocates for Freedom in Education (TAFFIE)
Texas Advocates for Freedom in Education (TAFFIE) provides Texas homeschooling resources for new and veteran homeschoolers.
Texas Home School Coalition
The Texas Home School Coalition is dedicated to serving the home-school community of Texas and promoting a greater knowledge, understanding and acceptance of home education in our state.
